One of the pillars of Coal Ridge High School’s academic excellence is our robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, including the AP Capstone Diploma program. As an AP Capstone school, we offer students the opportunity to pursue an AP Diploma by completing advanced coursework and research-based projects that build critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills. Electrical Orientation Program Sparks Coal Ridge Students Thoughts on Careers

When a flyer landed in the inbox of Coal Ridge High School Counselor Kat Nichols, she knew it had potential—especially for students looking for a hands-on career path right after high school.

Six Coal Ridge juniors and seniors took advantage of a unique opportunity this spring to participate in a six-to-eight-week Electrical Orientation course hosted by the Western Colorado Independent Electrical Contractors (WCIEC). Funded by EPIC (Education Providers & Industry Collaborating) through the Colorado River BOCES, the course introduced students to the basics of electrical work—and, for some, sparked the start of a lifelong career.

Kirk Banghart approved as next Garfield Re-2 Superintendent

RIFLE, CO - The Garfield Re-2 School District is pleased to announce that Kirk Banghart will serve as the next Superintendent beginning July 1, 2025. His contract was unanimously approved at the April 9, 2025, School Board meeting. Mr. Banghart will take over for current Superintendent Heather Grumley, who is retiring at the end of the school year after five years in the superintendent role and over 30 years in the Garfield Re-2 School District.

Mr. Banghart brings a passion for continuous improvement, a deep respect for the great work happening in Garfield Re-2, and a commitment to listening and learning from the community. His contract will officially begin July 1, 2025, and he will begin spending time in Garfield Re-2 a few days a month, specifically to support critical hiring decisions and get to know the staff of the District.
