Garfield Re-2 School District is pleased to announce that longtime Coal Ridge High School educator and assistant principal Michael Mikalakis has been selected to serve as the school’s next principal, effective July 1, 2026, pending Board of Education approval. Mikalakis will take the reins from outgoing principal Jackie Davis, who is retiring at the end of the 25-26 school year.

Mikalakis will become just the fifth principal in Coal Ridge High School’s history, a responsibility he does not take lightly.

Yahir Garcia, Chloe Coon, and Gracie Appleton are finalists for three prestigious scholarships, each recognizing students for their character, leadership, and academic promise: Yahir for the Boettcher Scholarship, Chloe for the Michael E. Each scholarship is highly competitive. Each carries significant financial support. But more importantly, each recognizes the traits Garfield Re-2 and Coal Ridge strive to cultivate in every graduate: students who are academically prepared, empowered individuals, community-connected, and strong and determined.
